45 Modern Kitchen Ideas for Your Next Remodel

Well, I finally made the call. My kitchen is getting a proper makeover, complete with a look that feels totally stylish and completely me.

As with all my redecorating projects, the first thing I do is hunt for inspiration. So now, I’m sharing all the amazing modern kitchen ideas that I’ve collected.

1. Eat-In Bar

If you just can’t squeeze in a separate dining table, an eat-in bar is the perfect, streamlined solution. I love this idea because it creates a casual spot to eat right where all the action is happening.

It’s also a total home run for parties when you need a place for people to grab snacks. This particular design is extra smart because it creates a clear separation between the prep zone and the dining space on the island.

2. Pops of Colours

Modern designs are all about clean lines, symmetry, and efficiency. But who says they can’t be fun? This kitchen nails all those elements and then adds a fantastic dose of personality.

Those gypsy globe drop lights are just so colorful and striking. What a beautiful touch!

3. Modern Compact

Talk about modern and efficient! This little white kitchen is an absolute dream for today’s homes. I think the open floor plan is key here.

Along with the white interiors and those huge windows, it keeps everything feeling so spacious, even if the footprint is small.

It’s got a really practical U-shape design with clean countertops, simple wood flooring, and smart cabinetry.

4. Grey Patterned Floor Tiles

This kitchen feels so spacious, modern, and bright. White is clearly the star of the show in this well-lit design, and all the wood accents bring in some wonderful depth.

For me, the real highlight is those grey patterned floor tiles. They feel so neat and are just surprisingly delightful to look at. I also love the clever underlighting for the cabinets and bar.

5. Black Beauty

Neutral colors are always a favorite in modern kitchen designs. Beyond just white and grey, black is having a serious moment. This all black kitchen is so dramatic with its matte black cabinets and walls.

The bare wood flooring and wood accents add a touch of rustic charm that I love, while the black appliances and that eye-catching herringbone splashback keep it looking sharp.

6. Discreet Storage

A place for everything and everything in its place! Modern minimalist designs are all about those streamlined surfaces and clutter-free counters, which means you need some creative and discreet storage.

This kitchen totally gets it, taking full advantage of the island space with some seriously inventive cabinetry.

7. Sliding Mesh Pantry Door

This is such a cool way to modernize a dated pantry. The whole concept is so sleek and edgy.

You’ve got those Prussian blue wood planks in a herringbone pattern, bare wood shelves and drawers, and then a metal mesh sliding door to top it all off. It feels so classy, beautiful, and totally modern!

8. The Alcove Kitchen

Small, perfectly organized, and so modern. This is a fantastic space-saving kitchen design that really relies on clever cabinetry and efficient planning.

The little alcove packs in so much, with the sink, plenty of counter space for prep work, and shelves for storage. Plus, the creative lighting and warm wood panels give it a wonderful, bucolic charm.

9. Bright Skylights

You can never have too much natural light, and installing skylights is such a brilliant way to optimize it in the kitchen.

This all-white modern space gets a huge lighting boost from that long skylight that runs its whole length and connects to the glass wall.

I love the minimalist design, with its white interiors, light grey accents and splashback, and modern light fixtures.

10. Updated Mid Century Modern

The clean, bright, and graceful feel of mid-century modern interiors is timeless. It’s so easy to update for today’s contemporary look.

This kitchen keeps all the best parts, like the smooth wood, pastels, and bright feeling, but adopts more modern light cabinetry and natural stone countertops. It’s the perfect blend!

11. Gold and Chandeliers

This is pure, show-stopping elegance and opulence. A kitchen of marble, crystal, and gold that feels just as magnificent as it does modern.

The streamlined design really banks on its prime materials and standout pieces like those crystal chandeliers, marble countertops, and gold accents.

And those gold-framed bar seats are just as cushy as they are elegant.

12. Island Organiser

Using the space under the kitchen island counter for storage is just so efficient and sensible. It’s out of the way but still super accessible, which makes it the best spot for those often-used utensils, dinnerware, and food items.

This sleek grey kitchen island has perfectly organized drawers for plates, cooking utensils, and food containers.

13. Black Compact

So edgy, striking, and modern! This beautiful kitchen was clearly designed with smaller homes and apartments in mind.

The whole kitchen is installed against one wall, including the sink, oven, washer, and storage. The minimalist island provides extra storage and counter space.

Its matte black theme and minimalist design make this space-efficient kitchen incredibly chic and stunning.

14. Updated Farmhouse

I just love farmhouse interiors; they always feel so charming, welcoming, and beautiful. Bringing a farmhouse kitchen into the modern era is actually pretty easy.

This one keeps classic touches like the glass and bulb pendant lights and the wooden seats and floors. The modern updates, like floating shelves, clean white walls, and streamlined cabinetry, fit in perfectly.

15. Concrete and Wood

Sometimes the best thing you can do is let natural elements be themselves. Let the wood patterns shine through and skip the paint and carpet.

This understated kitchen design really embraces that idea with its bare concrete walls, wood floors, and wood cabinet doors and shelving. The modern cabinetry keeps all the surfaces looking streamlined and clean.

16. The Colonial Farmhouse

What a charming, warm, and welcoming space! This classic colonial farmhouse kitchen held onto so many of its lovely original features, like the wood-panelled island, mid-century modern bar stools, and wood floors.

To bring the room up to date, modern elements like industrial lighting, floating shelves, and white interiors were added in.

17. Scandinavian Greys

Those warm, light shades of Scandinavian grey can fit so easily into any modern minimalist interior. This white and grey kitchen uses a lovely dove grey that’s bright but without the harshness of a pure white.

The herringbone pattern of the wood plank flooring is so idyllic and striking, while the marble splashback gives the whole room a posh vibe.

18. Modern Rustic

This is such a beautiful combination of sleek modern style and rustic charm.

The glossy shine from the modern tiles and clean countertops is a perfect counterpoint to the bare wood planks on the cabinet doors and that rough brick accent wall.

All you need are some sleek modern lights to finish off the look perfectly.

19. White Minimalist

I think the lovely wood flooring and smart lighting are what saved this all-white kitchen from feeling too stark or uninteresting. It could have gone clinical, but it didn’t!

The black accents from the striking drop lights and counters add some nice depth, while the impressive cabinetry keeps the whole look feeling neat and modern.

20. Compact and Colourful

So bright, colorful, and efficient! I just love this beautiful modern kitchen. It might be small in size, but it is definitely big in style and design.

The layout is planned to keep movement to a minimum, with everything within arm’s reach. The wide window and two pendant lights provide plenty of light.

But the most noteworthy part of the design is that colorful and beautiful splashback.

21. Home Bar Kitchen Bar

Why not integrate your home bar right into your kitchen design? It makes so much sense. You eliminate the need for double installations of a fridge, a sink, and other bar essentials.

This modern kitchen features a bar right in its island, complete with wine coolers and a service cabinet. So convenient!

22. Hanging Shelves

Hanging shelves are such a practical, eye-catching, and fun addition to any kitchen. You can use them for storage or as a platform to display your favorite things.

They’re out of the way but accessible at the same time. This elegant modern kitchen added some industrial-style hanging shelves for extra space and a bit of rustic charm.

23. Updated Bohemian

Colorful, bright, and a little bit quirky. I love this modern version of the striking and spunky bohemian look. It feels a bit more restrained, with less decor and more focus on efficiency.

The bright rug brings in those fun colors and patterns of the theme, while the bare wood accents and reed pendant lighting evoke the raw beauty of the genre.

24. Modern Coastal Kitchen

This kitchen keeps the traditional vibe of coastal interiors, which I adore. It’s so bright, perky, and sunny.

At the same time, it’s infused with a lot of modern upgrades, like its minimalist kitchen island that has clean white lines and an efficient design.

Other modern touches include the all-white interiors, bare wood floors, and modern lighting.

25. Eat-In Table

Having an eat-in option is so popular in modern kitchen designs, and I can see why. Busy schedules and smaller homes have pushed many of us to ditch the formal dining room in favor of an eat-in kitchen area.

This smartly designed table is actually an extension of the kitchen island. The beautiful bronze of the island is a perfect balance to the cool greys in the rest of the kitchen.

26. Multi-Functional Kitchen Sink

A sleek, efficient, and multi-functional kitchen sink is the perfect complement to a modern kitchen. This stainless-steel sink has features that would make kitchen work an absolute breeze, all while saving a ton of counter space.

Paired with a modern faucet, the chrome finish looks amazing against the white counters.

27. Indoor Herb Garden

This is my kind of kitchen! It’s practically an indoor garden. A planter box is built right into the island, and there are more planters all around the kitchen.

The natural greens make the modern black interiors come alive with color. The wood plank flooring adds a wonderful dose of rustic charm, while the sleek lighting and fixtures really highlight the modern look.

28. Hardwood Flooring

This is a true ultra-modern kitchen, with its cool grey interiors, sleek cabinetry, and lots of creative lighting.

The beautiful hardwood flooring provides a perfect counterpoint to the cool vibe, bringing in warmth and a touch of rustic charm. It’s so modern with just a hint of pastoral allure.

29. Efficient Cabinetry

Efficient cabinetry is an absolute must-have for any modern kitchen. Space-saving designs, accessibility, and overall efficiency are so important when you’re planning a modern kitchen.

This sleek black kitchen features sliding shelves with organizers. It’s a great way to organize kitchen items and get them off the counters, while still keeping everything within easy reach.

30. Window Bright

It’s so essential to keep a kitchen well-lit all the time. This modern kitchen gets plenty of light from its wide glass window and open floor plan.

The silver fittings are a perfect complement to the sleek grey marble floor, grey cabinets, walls, and counters. And those wood cabinet doors add in just the right dose of warmth and charm.

31. Creative Lighting

Smaller kitchens can feel so much bigger with enough lighting. This small apartment kitchen gets a huge boost from its creative lighting and light-toned interiors.

To avoid that cramped feeling, it’s a great idea to lighten up dark spaces like under the cabinets and make the cabinetry as seamless as possible.

32. Rough Stone Wall

Bringing natural elements into a room is a constant theme in modern interior design, and I’m here for it.

This white minimalist kitchen perfectly combines the neatness and smoothness of bare white walls and clean countertops with the texture of a rough stone accent wall. The contrast is amazing.

33. Luxurious Copper Accents

The muted sheen of copper just speaks of elegance, luxury, and style. It’s a perfect complement to modern matte interiors.

Copper accents bring in just the right amount of luxurious shine without ever feeling tacky. I love the idea of matching a spectacular copper sink with the faucet and other fittings.

34. Stripped Down Black and White

Chic, modern, and absolutely gorgeous. This is the classic black and white interior, but in its streamlined, modern version.

It’s stripped down to the basics, including only what’s necessary: a smooth white kitchen island with a sink, a couple of sleek cabinets, a minimalist light bar, and sleek black bar seats.

That marble splashback wall with its delicate, barely-there veins is the epitome of muted elegance.

35. Elegant Coastal

This is such a refreshing and clean coastal-themed kitchen. It just exudes luxury and charm with its bright white interiors tamed by royal blue accents.

The delicate marble kitchen island is nice and wide, and it also doubles as an eat-in table. The gold fittings are a beautiful complement to the white, while the bare wood flooring adds depth and warmth to the whole space.

36. Chalkboard Wall

Adding a chalkboard wall to your kitchen is such a fun idea! It’s functional, a little bit quirky, and it saves you from having to decorate one less wall.

I can just imagine this fun chalkboard wall being used as a reminder board, an art wall, and a place to display your kids’ masterpieces.

37. Rock Kitchen Sink

Talk about adding contrast and drama! Putting a raw and rough rock kitchen sink into your modern kitchen will definitely do the trick.

The rough, natural look of the sink would really stand out among all the sleek and smooth modern finishes, making its raw beauty the star of the show.

38. Spectacular Island

The kitchen island is so often the focal point of the room, so why not go all out? Installing a smashing kitchen island like this oddly shaped, stone-inspired one will set the entire look and style of the room.

The rest of the kitchen interiors perfectly complement the spectacular island, with a matching splashback, grey cabinet walls, concrete walls, and similarly shaped pendant lights.

39. Bright Industrial

White, bright, and so modern. This industrial-themed modern kitchen has some amazing features.

The 3D splashback design is incredible, and the white and grey interiors paired with that captivating retro-industrial lighting just works.

The clean surfaces on the floors, counters, and walls are perfectly in line with its minimalist look.

40. Updated Cottage Kitchen

So charming, cozy, and welcoming. Cottage kitchens always remind me of warm meals, good company, and a loving atmosphere.

You can recreate that ambiance with a modern touch by updating cabinetry, clearing out excessive decor, and repainting with more neutral colors.

The key is to keep the charming elements like wood accents, warm lighting, and personal touches.

41. Minimalist Bar Stools

This kitchen is so delightful and bright, modern with a lot of traditional touches. It’s a posh and compact space that is both efficient and beautiful.

I love how classic elements like the vintage pendant lamps, cabinetry, and island design are complemented by modern facets like the stunning wood flooring and striking minimalist bar stools.

The classic gold touches bring in a truly luxurious look.

42. Wood Countertops

Wood is such a common element in modern kitchen ideas, and for good reason. It’s flexible and comes in so many patterns and shades.

Using wood for your modern kitchen counters adds a touch of warm rustic charm and breaks up the monotony of plain walls and floors.

This kitchen features plain modern walls and ceilings, elegant black accent pieces, and matching wood counters and floors.

43. Black Industrial

The gleam of aluminum provides the perfect contrast to the deep matte black of this kitchen’s interiors. It feels so sharp and edgy.

This ultra-modern design features matte black walls and ceiling, bare concrete flooring, rustic wood accents, and silver aluminum fittings. What a combination!

44. Unique Minimalist

You can create such an elegant minimalist look by using a dark color with minimalist designs. Instead of the usual white, black, or grey, why not pick something unexpected and unique?

This deep bluish-green kitchen exudes a creative and romantic individual taste. Just complete the look with light accents and clean white counters.

45. Moody Blue

Moody, dreamy, and so beautiful. This modern kitchen skipped the colors most common to modern designs and instead chose this gorgeous dark blue tone.

It gives the kitchen such a unique and unforgettable look. The bare wood flooring and matching cabinetry highlights add a hint of pastoral charm, while the strategic lighting gives the room its dreamy vibe.

46. Dressed Up Ceiling

The striking wood paneling on the ceiling is what completes the modern rustic sophistication of this kitchen. The neat plain walls and counters, streamlined cabinetry, and bare smooth speckled rock floor are all modern elements.

But the addition of wood cabinet doors and that ceiling accent counters the monotony and brings in so much rustic allure.

47. Pink Wall Kitchen

It’s an entire kitchen on one wall! This incredibly efficient kitchen design placed a full kitchen on a single wall. The center has an alcove with a counter, sink, and stove top.

Below the counter are the oven and some drawers and cabinets. On both sides and above the alcove are more storage spaces and a fridge. A lovely shade of old rose pink is used to define the space.

48. Matte Splashback

What a striking modern kitchen. It features a splashback made of herringbone patterned tiles in a dark matte color.

The deep, flat tone of the splashback is the perfect backdrop for the gorgeous wood cabinets and countertop. The black vintage pendant lights and gold fixtures complete this chic and edgy look.

49. Retro Red

Here’s a great way to interrupt the monotony of a modern kitchen. Inject something unexpected and fun! This sleek and modern white kitchen gets a dose of nostalgic fun from its retro red splashback.

It matches the shiny counters and cabinets perfectly. The red goes so well with the stark white interiors, wood-themed floors, and modern finishes.

50. Spacious Minimalist

Space is such a luxury, and when you have it, you should definitely take advantage of the design possibilities. This spacious kitchen embraces a minimalist-industrial theme.

The look is dominated by an open ceiling, bare concrete floors, and a wall-less floor plan. By ditching the splashback, the design opted for a plain white wall, wood cabinetry, and strategic lighting.

51. Luxurious Modern Elegance

A timeless design with classic elements and a modern look. This elegant kitchen design includes clean walls, floor, and ceiling, with neutral colors and luxurious decor.

Just look at that elegant marble backsplash, the silver fixtures, and that pair of silver ball pendant lights. The streamlined design really showcases the elegant accents and modern cabinetry.

52. Beautiful Grey

So elegant and timeless. This smoky grey shade is the perfect complement to white. The gorgeous modern cabinetry features silver fittings and minimalist lines.

To complete the look, you just need grey wood flooring, white countertops, and a stunning white-grey splashback.

53. Floating Shelves

Floating shelves are great because they provide needed storage and display space without blocking the view or crowding the room. The sleek shelving style fits in with most modern kitchen designs.

This modern rustic kitchen features floating shelves over its counter to hold a collection of pottery, dinnerware, and other kitchen essentials.

54. Colourful Pocket Kitchen

You definitely won’t miss having a big kitchen if you have one that’s this well-designed, colorful, and modern.

This pocket kitchen has all the tools for efficient food prep: an oven, stove, fridge, sink, and plenty of storage and counter space.

That fun and colorful splashback really makes the space brighter and adds a ton of charm.

55. Modish Minimalist

This kitchen is so modern and chic with a touch of quirky charm. The minimalist design has beautiful granite countertops, wood cabinet doors, plain white walls, and hardwood floors.

Those chic black fixtures really catch the eye and are complemented by the black steel frames of the island and bar seats.

For me, the kitchen’s best feature is the wide glass window that offers a great view of the outdoors.
