When I got my house, every room, including the bathroom, was just so blah and small. So I’ve been on a personal quest to not only ditch the boring but to make every space feel bigger and more custom.
If you’re in the same boat, these are the ideas that will get you there!
1. Vintage Black and White
This look is just so chic, elegant, and completely timeless. I love how a classy black and white bathroom brings a ton of nostalgia with its vintage vibe.
Black and white prints, a claw-foot tub, and some potted plants really bring back a classic era of style.
The thing that really makes it feel updated, though, are the eye-catching black penny tiles and modern fixtures. It’s the perfect mix!
2. Hide-Away Tub
You really don’t have to give up comfort just because you’re short on space. A hide-away tub is one of the smartest ways to optimize your bathroom.
The shower is set up on a dais and enclosed with glass walls, and it transforms into a soaking tub just by taking out its wood slat floor. This idea is inspired by Japanese minimalism, and it’s an amazing space-management trick.
3. Rustic Red Bricks
How beautiful is this? Adding a red brick wall to your bathroom instantly kicks its style up a notch.
It’s such a surprising element that makes the space feel special, and the warm red tones of the natural brick bring in a wonderful amount of pastoral charm.
4. A Floating Sink
Getting furniture and fixtures off the floor is one of my favorite tricks because it frees up floor space and makes the room feel so much more open.
Things like floating shelves, toilets, and sinks can create the illusion of a bigger bathroom. This scaled-down minimalist floating sink is just perfect for a modern bathroom where space is limited. It’s polished, functional, and so attractive.
5. Ladder and Baskets
Ladders are a super popular choice for small bathroom designs, and for good reason! They’re mobile, flexible, and have a quirky, attractive look.
You can use a ladder as a towel bar, for storage shelves, or as an organizer. This combination of a ladder and baskets is both charming and functional for helping to manage all that bathroom clutter.
6. Glass Wall
A glass wall is a fantastic way to open the room to the outside. It extends your line of sight and makes a small room appear much bigger and more spacious.
This modern bathroom has a glass wall that showcases a beautiful, exotic garden just outside. You can give yourself a real treat by creating an indoor-outdoor bathroom that feels both relaxing and comfortable.
7. Discreet Storage
Having enough storage is absolutely essential for managing clutter and keeping a bathroom feeling neat and comfortable. This can be a real challenge in a small bathroom.
However, a creative use of space and some discreet storage can totally solve the problem. This pull-out vertical drawer with shelves can fit into those awkward little spaces and give you all the storage you need.
8. Fun Tiles
This is so eye-catching and fun! Adding an accent wall of Portuguese tiles is a great way to relieve the monotony of modern minimalism.
These tiles come in so many fun patterns and colors, they might be the only decoration your bathroom needs. The white and grey wall here provides a touch of excitement and a quirky feel to the otherwise orderly modern interior.
9. Rich Metallic Accents
Just because you have a modern minimalist bathroom doesn’t mean it has to be boring. This small bathroom takes on the modern look with a whole lot of flair coming from those striking metallic accents.
This edgy bathroom really shines with its matching brushed bronze fixtures. The backlit moon mirror and black marble counter complete the stunning look. What a showstopper!
10. Mirrors and Windows
Mirrors are one of the best tricks in the book for making small spaces feel bigger because they visually double the size of the room.
Wide glass windows let natural light pour in, give you a great view, and extend your vision, making the room feel larger and airier. This little bathroom benefits from both of these awesome design tricks.
11. Skylights
This small bathroom feels so much bigger because of a few smart choices. The big skylight, the mirror placed right across from it, the white interiors, and plenty of lighting all work together.
I love how the fern subway tile accent wall draws your eye, while the warm wood-themed flooring adds a little bit of bucolic charm.
12. Black Concrete
This design is so plain, edgy, and beautiful. The stark bareness of it brings a monastic feeling of simplicity. But the striking look of the black concrete walls and minimalist interior is just unforgettable.
Wood elements are added in for a hint of rustic charm, which really balances it out.
13. Efficient Minimalism
Clean, elegant, and efficient. I love this no-nonsense design because it’s beautiful without any excessive fuss. Its modern minimalist features include clean lines, neutral colors, and bare walls.
The huge lightbox in the shower ceiling provides tons of lighting, and the black-framed glass divider is perfect for separating the wet and dry sections.
14. Grey Slate Elegance
The modern sophistication of grey slate and marble gives this smallish bathroom a truly luxurious feel, despite its size. The unfussy and elegant grey slate walls are matched beautifully by the marble floor and minimalist interiors.
The chrome fixtures add a hint of shine, while the space-saving recessed shelves provide storage and highlight the room with some mood lighting.
15. Door Storage
When you have a limited-space bathroom, you have to optimize every single available inch.
Installing a storage rack on the back of the door gives you an accessible spot for all your bathroom stuff. It’s out of the way but still super easy to reach.
16. Compact and Clean
This small bathroom is absolutely complete, efficient, and gorgeous. The design was so well-planned, it includes a glass-enclosed shower, toilet, sink, and still has enough room to move around.
Its plain white walls, ample lighting, and dark floor all contribute to that roomy feel. The modern look comes from the choice of tiles: white subway for the walls and black hexagons for the floor. So good!
17. Sunny Yellow
How perky and bright is this? Reinventing a small, dreary bathroom into this sunny yellow fun room is such a great idea! A fresh coat of amber or butterscotch will totally liven up a generic white bathroom.
And those attractive honeycomb floor tiles in shades of brown are the perfect complement to the fun yellow accents in the room.
18. Marble and Wood
The cool elegance of white marble really comes through in this small bathroom. The smooth walls and floors are beautiful just as they are, and the light tone helps make the room appear larger than it is.
Adding a wood-themed accent wall is a perfect touch, balancing the cool marble with the warmth of the wood’s rustic vibe.
19. Green Envy
Chic, delightful, and modern! This well-appointed bathroom features patterned white walls and matching floors, a glass-enclosed shower, and plenty of storage and lighting.
But the real star is the accent wall in that gorgeous basil green shade. It’s such a quirky surprise in an otherwise modern design, and I’m here for it.
20. Floor Impact
The walls and ceiling in this bathroom have a very minimal style, with subdued colors and textures. But the floor is a whole different story! It’s got bright colors and striking patterns.
A great tip is that too many details on the walls can make a small room feel crowded, but that’s not the case with floors. So, when you’re designing a small bathroom, focus your big design ideas on the floor and keep the walls clean.
21. Halving the Wall
You can create an illusion of width by halving the wall with creative tiling. This narrow bathroom gets a real boost from its steel blue tiles on the lower half and a plain tan shade on the upper portion of the wall.
Light wood-themed flooring keeps the space feeling bright, and the chrome fixtures help reflect light, making the room seem more spacious.
22. Blue Subways
Here’s a great tip: avoid busy walls when you’re decorating smaller rooms. These beveled blue subway tiles are perfect because they can add depth and character to your bathroom without crowding the walls.
The lovely blue shade is matched with white grout and counters, along with deep wood accents in the classic sink vanity and wall trim.
23. Modern Rustic
This bathroom may be small in size, but it is huge in style! It showcases such a great combination of modern efficiency and rustic charm.
The modern concrete walls and floor, clean lines, and natural elements all blend so well with the repurposed wood sink and matte black fixtures. It’s cool, composed, and absolutely beautiful.
24. Stunning Lights
You can create just the right ambiance and look for your bathroom by adding the right lighting. This small bathroom gets a dramatic vibe from its unique and stunning tubular ceiling light fixtures.
The lighting also highlights the modern accent wall of patterned tiles. I love how the reclaimed wood vanity drawers and the rattan basket inject a hint of cool pastoral charm.
25. White and Bright
This mostly white bathroom makes use of every bit of available floor space without cramping the room. It’s a complete bathroom that includes a tub, a shower, a vanity sink and counter, a toilet, and still has more than enough room to move around.
The beautiful mother-of-pearl accent wall directs your eye toward it and the window, which keeps the middle space clear with glass shower walls and everything else set to the side. So smart!
26. Textured Walls
To avoid crowding an already small bathroom, you can ditch the decorations and just let your walls be the decor. Textured walls are so attractive and elegant.
This bathroom features wood-themed tiles to line its shower area and textured stone tiles for the rest of the room. The creative lighting gives the whole space a more defined look.
27. Bare Concrete
This is a great idea if you want to ditch all the decor and just leave the room with the essentials. This bare concrete bathroom is the epitome of modern minimalism.
There’s nothing excessive or unnecessary, just the basics. It has smooth bare concrete walls and floors, a wide glass window, a glass separator, a shelf, and a chrome shower set. A handy wooden seat is added for a little touch of rustic.
28. White Minimalist
Clean, bright, efficient. This complete and modern white bathroom doesn’t need a lot of space to be effective.
The huge lightbox in the shower provides plenty of lighting, the glass separator keeps the room feeling open, and the white interiors help make it appear bigger than it really is.
I also love the subtle textures on the stone floor and walls that give the room character and a unique look.
29. Glass Shower Walls
Dividers and screens can cut off your line of vision and make a room look smaller. That’s why a glass shower wall divider is the best choice for smaller bathrooms.
It serves its purpose without limiting the view. The clean white walls and bright shower skylight also help make the room appear more spacious and airy.
30. Outside View
Adding a window to your bathroom is a great way to get a view of the outside. It will also open up the room and visually extend its walls.
This smallish bathroom appears larger than it is, thanks to the strategic glass window placed right over the sink. Mornings can be so much more inspiring with a few minutes spent admiring the views.
31. Pink Sophistication
So feminine, stylish, and elegant! This fabulous white and pink bathroom takes “pretty” to a whole new level.
The white interiors get a luxurious boost from the marble wall and a classy elegance from the pink herringbone tile accent wall. The gold-framed mirror and matching pendant lights are delicate, stylish, and totally posh. Perfect!
32. Modern Grey Hexagons
This stunning bathroom gets its amazing look from those cool and attractive grey hexagon tiles. They cover the entire floor and the accent wall, and the subtly patterned tiles give definition and a unique look to this modern bath.
A great tip is to keep the rest of the room in plain white so you don’t overwhelm the design.
33. Box Wall Shelves
Floating shelves are a common feature in many small bathroom designs. These floating box shelves provide much-needed storage and organizing space in smaller bathrooms without cramping up the walls.
The rustic vibe of the stained wood is a great counter to the stark white of the walls.
34. Luxurious Emerald
Fabulous, striking, and luxurious. A posh bathroom doesn’t have to be big!
This white and emerald bath is lavishly designed and looks amazing with its marble floors and walls, modern fittings, and that incredible emerald accent wall. The silver-framed mirror is simply stunning and becomes the focal point of the entire room.
35. Basket Accents
Baskets are such a functional and beautiful addition to any bathroom. They are great for storage and organizing, and you can easily move them around as needed.
They come in so many different designs, styles, and colors that you can definitely find the perfect set for your space.
36. Black Wonder
The deep matte black of this small and narrow bathroom works so well, and it’s all thanks to its creative and strategic lighting. The textured hexagon tiles provide character and accent to the room without disrupting its all-black theme.
White accents relieve the monotony, and the narrow shelf and sink leave enough free space for foot traffic.
37. Modern Compact
This is efficiency at its best. This modern compact bathroom is big in style but small in size and so efficient in its use of space. The glassed-in shower is at the end of the room, next to an accented toilet area.
Closest to the door is the white vanity, which is complete with storage drawers, a sink, ample counter space, a wide mirror, and stylish pendant lights.
38. Accent Wall
An accent wall is perfect for giving definition and character to a room. Adding one to a small bathroom gives the room a focal point that totally switches your attention away from its size.
This stunning accent wall features wood-themed tiles that cover the wall and floor, which not only denotes the toilet area but also changes the bathroom from feeling cramped to cozy.
39. Stone and Wood
Dramatic, elegant, and absolutely beautiful. The spectacular interior design of this small bathroom will make you totally forget its size!
You can bring in the drama with stone walls, a wood floor and accents, and that arresting wall feature: a back-lit recessed shelf with a bonsai plant. Simply unforgettable.
40. Recessed Shelves
Recessed shelves are a popular addition to many small bathroom designs. They provide the space you need without crowding the room.
This modern bathroom manages clutter while making everything accessible with strategically placed shelves. The back-lighted box shelves also provide more depth and personality to the room.
41. Powder Blue Charm
This cool and charming shade of powder blue works so well with most neutral tones popular in modern designs. It’s light enough to keep the room from looking cramped and cool enough to counter the starkness of white.
This bathroom features white subway tiles, blue walls, and an eye-catching blue and white patterned floor.
42. Blues and White
So charming, bright, and elegant. This coastal-themed bathroom mixes white with several shades of blue to achieve a fun, cool, and breezy vibe.
The white window shutters and wood accents are charming, the dark blue flooring is elegant, and the stand-alone tub is unfussy and modern.
43. Living Moss Wall Tiles
This small bathroom gets a real surprise element from its live moss wall tiles. The sleek white interiors get disrupted by the warm wood-themed floor tiles and those eye-catching bright green squares of wall plants.
The bathroom also gets a boost in size from its wall mirrors and great lighting.
44. Magical Murals
You can transform a small, generic bathroom into something spectacular and magical with an epic mural. This bathroom features a stunning and out-of-this-world moonscape mural!
The black counter and fixtures, the floating toilet, and the moon-themed floor perfectly complement it.
45. Mediterranean Delight
A little bit of shine and some enchanting Mediterranean accents will transform your small bathroom from ordinary to fabulous.
This narrow white bathroom gets an upgrade from the patterned tile walls, a black-framed mirror, and a pendant lamp.
